One of the lesser known windows features is the Send To option in the Explorer menu. It allows you to right-click on the file and choose send to, which will open the file with an app, create a shortcut on the desktop, or copy it to another folder or drive. With windows XP, you get an installation message on the start menu that says New Programs Installed. Duh, you’ve just installed that program. Lets get rid of that annoying message. Right-click the Start menu and select Properties. Open the Start Menu tab and click Customize. On the Advanced tab, deselect the "Highlight Newly Installed" option. Click OK twice.

Want to place your taskbar somewhere else than the standard bottom portion of the screen? The taskbar can be dragged to either side of the screen, or the top / bottom of the screen. Hold down the left mouse button and drag it. If it won't move, it might be locked. Right-click it. Clear the check from Lock the Taskbar.
Once moved, the taskbar should stay put. If it doesn't, lock it. Right-click the taskbar and click Lock the Taskbar. That's it!

Ever received one of those emails that claims your bank is updating its system and needs your account information? Or one from the FBI / CIA that says they have logged your IP address at more than 30 illegal websites and asks you to complete an attached form? That is called Phishing. It is the latest attempt at identity theft from criminals around the world. If you receive emails like this, DELETE them. If an agency like the FBI or the CIA wanted to contact you, they wouldn’t do it in an email. |
